Teaching Guide: Sally Ride: To Space and Back

In this lesson students will be learning about the first American woman in space, Sally Ride, as well as her work after NASA in outreach for young girls in astrophysics.

Sally Ride was the first female American Astronaut. She worked extensively in her life to increase female participation in the sciences. She developed the Sally Ride Science Program, wrote children’s books, collaborated with NASA to create science programs for girls, as well as worked as a teacher and investigator of the Challenger disaster. Sally Ride came out as gay via her partner after her death. In this guide students will earn about the life of Sally Ride and explore creating a children’s book.
