Education Advisory Resource Group (EARG)

This committee is charged with providing guidance, advice and recommendations concerning the programs and initiatives carried out by the AIP Education Division, including but not limited to the Society of Physics Students (SPS)/Sigma Pi Sigma, GradSchoolShopper and the Career Network. A primary mission of this committee is to review selected products and programs to enhance the educational opportunities offered to the broader physics and astronomy community.

Activities include:

  • Analyzing and review educational offerings and practices
  • Identifying new educational opportunities, emerging trends, and needs within the community
  • Promoting cooperation within the larger physics and astronomy community
  • Having an emphasis on physics & astronomy undergraduates, working through SPS & Sigma Pi Sigma
  • Striving to support all physics and astronomy students, faculty, departments, advisers and mentors

The group’s seven to nine members, who broadly represent the physical sciences community including practicing physicists and astronomers, meets at least once per academic year, facilitated by the director of SPS and the AIP education division. Members have staggered, three-year terms that expire on June 30 of the third year. The group reports its findings and recommendations to management annually.
