“SPS is a community that extends beyond schoolwork and physics- or astronomy-related activities,” said de la Puente. “It’s exciting to stand at the helm of the student-led society that accompanied me through the hardships of undergrad and helped me become the person I am today.”
As an SPS alumnus, Alejandro’s undergraduate experience was a defining period that sparked his dedication to empowering students through education and equity-driven programs. His advice to students is simple yet powerful: “Knock on doors, ask for help, and build a community. Enjoy what you’re doing and surround yourself with supportive people.”
In his role as AIP’s first Student Engagement Officer, Alejandro aims to extend AIP’s reach to undergraduates, particularly those from under-resourced communities. His leadership reflects a commitment to inclusivity and innovation, ensuring that the next generation of physicists and astronomers has the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.
