AIP Transforms Brand, Focuses on Empowering Physical Scientists to Create a Better World
WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2022 – Today, the American Institute of Physics is unveiling a new brand identity as it transforms operations and strategies to better engage the physical sciences community. AIP’s bold new brand reflects the progress in AIP’s evolution and its vision for the future; it marks a clear step forward for an organization that has fostered progress for the physical sciences and has supported its community throughout its 90-year history.
Since its founding in 1931, AIP’s impact has grown and expanded across the spectrum of science disciplines. Today, AIP is a vibrant federation of 10 scientific societies that are the organization’s members, and the more than 110,000 scientists, engineers, students, and educators who are members of those societies.
“No question, we are changing as an organization,” said AIP CEO Michael Moloney . “There are many facets to our transformation, and this brand signals to the world how we are changing and the values we embrace as we strive for excellence in pursuit of our mission. We are building cutting-edge capacity in digital content, as we strive to better advance the success of our Member Societies. We also are laser-focused on developing more diversity within the science community, reducing barriers to inclusivity, and transforming culture to cultivate belonging. We needed a brand visual and brand story as bold and contemporary as the work we’re doing.”
In 2018, AIP embarked on a strategic transformation of the Institute. Core to this transformation was the development and adoption of a Strategic Framework that outlines an integrated future for AIP as both a federation of partner organizations and an institute serving the physical sciences enterprise. The vision of AIP-2025 within that Framework is guiding the organization toward a sustainable, agile, and inspirational future.
The new visual brand and story was developed in close collaboration with AIP Publishing, a subsidiary organization that publishes more than 30 of the most respected research journals in the fields of the physical sciences as well as publishing the scholarly journals for many of AIP’s Member Societies. A key focus also has been ensuring the brand supports the mission of AIP Foundation.
