Affiliation change with the American Geophysical Union

OCT 15, 2013

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) Board of Directors has voted to change its relationship with the American Institute of Physics (AIP) to support shifts in AGU’s strategic direction. AGU has withdrawn as a Member Society, and has formally petitioned the AIP Governing Board to become an AIP Affiliated Society. The AIP board will consider this request at its November 2013 meeting.

Although the affiliation between these two organizations has changed, both organizations expect a number of coordinated activities and programs to continue on an ad hoc basis. AGU respects the work that AIP does in the physical sciences, and AIP has valued its relationship with AGU. The two organizations will continue to collaborate as their overarching interests and missions remain closely aligned.
