Rare Earth Element Advanced Coal Technologies Act
Purpose
A bill to authorize the Office of Fossil Energy to develop advanced separation technologies for the extraction and recovery of rare earth elements and minerals from coal and coal byproducts, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
  • Directs the Department of Energy to conduct R&D on the separation of rare earth elements from coal and coal byproducts with a recommended annual appropriation of $23 million in fiscal years 2020 through 2027
  • Directs the Departments of Energy, Defense, and the Interior to submit an assessment of domestic requirements for rare earth elements and of vulnerabilities related to reliance on foreign supplies
