National AI Research Resource Task Force Act of 2020
Purpose
A bill to establish the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource Task Force, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Directs the National Science Foundation and White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to create a twelve-member task force that will investigate the feasibility of establishing a “national artificial intelligence research resource”
- The resource is defined as “a system that provides researchers and students across scientific fields and disciplines with access to compute resources, co-located with publicly available, artificial intelligence-ready government and nongovernment data sets and a research environment with appropriate educational tools and user support”
- Requires the task force to develop an implementation plan for the resource that includes a governance structure, metrics for success, and an assessment of the challenges to creating and sustaining such a resource
- Requires the task force to consist of four representatives from the federal government, four from institutions of higher education, and four from private organizations
