About

Katie Hafner is a longtime journalist and author. She was on staff at The New York Times for ten years, covering technology.  She is the author of six non-fiction books, including Where Wizards Stay up Late: The Origins of the Internet (with Matthew Lyon); A Romance on Three Legs: Glenn Gould’s Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Piano; Cyberpunk: Outlaws and Hackers on the Computer Frontier (with John Markoff); and the widely acclaimed memoir, Mother Daughter Me. Her first novel, The Boys, was published in 2022. She holds a bachelor’s degree in German literature from the University of California, San Diego and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University.
