Einstein in California

Abstract

Lyne Starling Trimble Public Lecture: Einstein in California Thumbnail

Einstein’s connection to the scientists and astronomers at Caltech dates back much longer than his three sojourns as a visiting scientist in the years 1931-1933. His early exchange of letters with George E. Hale in 1913 about gravitational deviation of light and the solar magnetic effect were to preoccupy Einstein for several decades to come and were to constitute one of the main topics of discussion when he visited Pasadena almost twenty years later.
