NOAA Chief Scientist Act
Purpose
To strengthen the role of the Chief Scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in order to promote scientific integrity and advance the Administration's world-class research and development portfolio.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Directs the president to consider recommendations of scientific advisory organizations when deciding who to appoint as chief scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
- Defines qualifications and responsibilities for the chief scientist role, which include upholding NOAA’s scientific integrity policy and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the agency
