Bolstering Long-Term Understanding and Exploration of the Great Lakes, Oceans, Bays, and Estuaries (BLUE GLOBE) Act
Purpose
A bill to improve data collection and monitoring of the Great Lakes, oceans, bays, estuaries, and coasts, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Directs the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration to commission a National Academy of Sciences study on the need for and feasibility of creating an Advanced Research Projects Agency–Oceans (ARPA-O)
- Directs NOAA to support at least one Ocean Innovation Prize focused on data collection and monitoring technology
- Recommends funding levels through fiscal year 2024 for various ocean and coastal research programs
