ARPA–E Reauthorization Act of 2019
Purpose
A bill to amend the America COMPETES Act to reauthorize the ARPA-E program, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
Selected provisions in the amended House bill
- Recommends ramping up ARPA–E’s budget to $750 million by fiscal year 2024
- Requires ARPA–E to avoid funding projects that have been able to secure private financing or that duplicate activities supported by other Department of Energy offices and relevant research agencies
Selected provisions in the original House bill
- Recommends ramping up ARPA–E’s budget to $1 billion by fiscal year 2024
- Expands scope of agency activities to encompass new technology areas, such as nuclear waste cleanup
- Requires ARPA–E to publish a “strategic vision roadmap” every four years
- Authorizes a new National Academies evaluation of the agency be performed after three years
