Pacific Northwest Earthquake Preparedness Act of 2017
Purpose
To direct the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to carry out a plan for the purchase and installation of an earthquake early warning system for the Cascadia Subduction Zone, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Directs the Federal Emergency Management Agency to develop a plan for purchasing an earthquake early warning system for the Cascadia Subduction Zone
- Establishes a task force of federal, state, and local stakeholders to make recommendations on earthquake and tsunami preparedness. The task force will partner with the National Academies to develop a federal research strategy to advance understanding of Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquakes and tsunami preparedness
