Purpose
A bill to authorize the programs of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Recommends the NASA Science Mission Directorate be funded at $6.4 billion in fiscal year 2019
- Extends NASA’s operation of the International Space Station from 2024 to 2030
- Provides legislative authorization to NASA’s Lunar Discovery Program
- Authorizes NASA to support the search for technosignatures of intelligent life beyond the Earth
- Authorizes a new cap of $9 billion for the development of the James Webb Space Telescope
- Directs NASA to continue development of the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope and places a cap of $3.2 billion on its development costs
- Expresses support for NASA’s Earth Science program
- Institutes limitations on cooperation between NASA and China
