Purpose
A bill to authorize the programs of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
  • Recommends the NASA Science Mission Directorate be funded at $6.4 billion in fiscal year 2019
  • Extends NASA’s operation of the International Space Station from 2024 to 2030
  • Provides legislative authorization to NASA’s Lunar Discovery Program
  • Authorizes NASA to support the search for technosignatures of intelligent life beyond the Earth
  • Authorizes a new cap of $9 billion for the development of the James Webb Space Telescope
  • Directs NASA to continue development of the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope and places a cap of $3.2 billion on its development costs
  • Expresses support for NASA’s Earth Science program
  • Institutes limitations on cooperation between NASA and China
