About the Winner

Founder of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Abdus Salam contributed to the progress of theoretical physics by offering opportunities for scientist from all countries to collaborate productively. The numerous papers that originated from such collaborations have advance knowledge in diverse fields of physics, from elementary particle physics to solid state physics.

Under Salam’s leadership the Centre gave unique opportunities to physicists from developing countries to collaborate with leading theorist from all around the world, thus increasing greatly the productivity of physicists at universities in developing countries, strengthening scientific cooperation on a global scale.
