On the Record: Senators in Support of Defense Basic Research Program Funding

Last month senators were given the opportunity to sign a letter voicing their support for providing total FY 2015 funding for the Department of Defense’s 6.1 Basic Research programs at “an amount closer to the level enacted for fiscal year 2014, if not higher.” Eighteen senators signed this letter.

Under the Obama Administration’s FY 2015 request for the Pentagon’s 6.1 Basic Research programs, total funding would decline 6.9 percent or $141.9 million, from this year’s $2,166.6 million to $2,017.5 million.

Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) was responsible for this letter that was sent to Chairman Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Ranking Member Thad Cochran (R-MS) of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. The following senators signed this letter :
