Equipping physics majors for STEM

The number of physics bachelor’s degrees awarded in the US has doubled in the last 14 years. Many of these graduates need or want to enter the workforce after earning their bachelor’s. Thus, physics departments should develop activities that are intended to prepare students for the STEM workforce in order to maintain or increase the current degree production levels. This report describes the ten findings from the Career Pathways Project, an AIP study that identified the features in those physics departments with a strong record of placing bachelor’s in the STEM workforce. The report describes many activities that faculty members can initiate to serve the need of physics bachelors who want to enter the workforce after earning their degrees.
