Maura Shapiro

Maura (she/her) loves (talking about) physics. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2021 with degrees in Physics and Communications and seeks to combine these skills to make physics more accessible and inclusive. Her Physics Today article about Eunice Foote , a once forgotten woman scientist who discovered carbon dioxide’s heat absorbing properties, was the publication’s Most Shared Article of 2021.

Though she previously conducted observational astronomy research, she has found archival and historical research about women and other underrepresented groups in physics history incredibly rewarding. As a lifelong podcast listener, she is excited to share all she’s learned in Initial Conditions.
