James Taylor joined AIP in August 2022 as its Chief Federation Officer, primarily responsible for enabling AIP to deliver on its goal of being a vibrant federation that advances the success of its 10 Member Societies (MS). In this role he supports the Federation Assembly, a standing body of MS leaders, in its work to address issues of common concern and to identify potential collective actions and partnership opportunities for shared impact.

Prior to joining AIP, James served as the Deputy Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer at the American Physical Society (APS), where he spent more than 19 years, starting as an editor of Physical Review B. While at APS, James helped lead a corporate restructure resulting in the development of APS’s first organization-wide strategic plan. He became a Fellow of APS in 2017.

Originally from the UK, James earned his PhD in Physics from Royal Holloway, University of London.
