AIP is a Federation of like-minded STEM organizations. Our goal is to advance the success of our member organizations, thereby advancing the physical sciences with a unifying voice of strength from our diverse Federation.
We work to empower our Member Societies and Affiliates with content, context and connection so that they may leverage their diverse expertise and contributions in the research enterprise, in the economy, in education and in society.
Each Member Society appoints a Member Society Director to serve on the AIP Board, a Member Society Representative to act on behalf of the Society as laid out in our bylaws, and two delegates to serve on the AIP Federation Assembly. Member Society staff and volunteer leaders gather at the AIP Annual Forum to connect, share and learn.

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a professional association explicitly designed for students and their advisers. AIP Federation Assembly

AIP Federation Assembly

A top-line goal for AIP is to advance the success of our Member Societies. To facilitate this work, we convene biannually the AIP Federation Assembly—comprised of 20 Member Society delegates and the Chair and CEO of AIP. At the Assembly, Member Societies bring concerns and priorities to the forefront, and make recommendations to the AIP CEO, advising on federation actions and AIP activities that support the shared mission.
